Young Ringers Day 2013

"On Saturday 1st June, the young ringers met at St. Nicholas Church (an eight-bell tower) and we rang for about an hour ringing mainly rounds but also a bit of plain-hunt. Next we walked to Hereford Cathedral to ring for an hour and again rang rounds and plain hunt also. It was a long way up a spiral staircase, then across a little bridge. There was one point at which we could look through a gap in the wall and look down at the cathedral. But as well as ringing at the cathedral, we were also given the chance to go on the roof and look at the city of Hereford, which was great! After we finished ringing, we went ten-pin bowling and had a lot of fun doing so, by meeting new friends and finding out where the other young ringers rang, how long they have been ringing and what they can ring. Then after bowling we had some food (burger and chips), which was the first time I had a chicken burger, but it was really nice! I think that Nick organised a great outing and I would like to go on another outing and visit new towers!"

A big ‘thank you’ to all the young-ringers who attended, to the parents for their patience while we rang, to all the helpers,

to Jen for writing an article and of course, the Cathedral and St. Nick’s for making us very welcome.
